Dear Colleagues, It is beginning to feel like spring and we are getting ready to garden. The outside work is good and if you come for a one-on-one seminar (see page 3 for details) this summer hopefully we can share some of the produce with you over lunch. Hoping also to see many of you at the seminar Jay Wilson DC and I are teaching in Denver May 5th (see page 4 for details). It should be a great class. I always learn a lot listening to Jay and from all of your experiences. May is a beautiful time to see Colorado and enjoy the scenery.
CASE HISTORIES
1. This case history was provided by John Manning DC who took our NYC seminar last year via the video:
This is a girl (accomplished college lacrosse player..All-American as Freshman) who actually did an internship with me while a pre-med student at Holy Cross College (Worcester, MA). She has become disillusioned with "medicine" and wanted to explore "alternatives". Over the six months (2x/wk) she spent here with me, she was able to follow many patients from intake to discharge. I tried to expose her to as many wellness concepts as I could, bringing her along to annual Jeff Bland seminars, and to local chiropractic society meetings. Patient outcomes were consistently positive - as they are in many AK practices of course - and she decided to scrap the med school plans and head to chiropractic school in Iowa!
She had a 5-year history of constipation - worsening in recent months. She averaged three days between bowel movements, sometimes going as many as 5 days. She noted severe bloating - her stomach would round out like a soccer ball. I never saw this. In fact, it is hard to picture as she is so trim and athletic. The usual remedies had been tried to no avail - X-Lax, Metamucil, high fiber, low fiber, dietary modifications of all sorts.

Lebowitz screen: Positive stool and oral, negated by Phytogen, Undecyn and Basic Nutrients (all Thorne Research 1 800-221-1966) Follow up ten days later (compressed time as she was flying to IA):
03/01/02 Since 2nd day of supplementing, once or twice DAILY bowel movements. NO bloating. Subjective findings: "I feel so much better."
AK and Lebowitz screens: all negative
2. Pam is a 53-year-old woman. She has had a history of migraines for over 20 years. I had treated her husband successfully many years ago for Meniere's syndrome. She never thought though of coming to me for her migraines. She was taking Cardine, Neurontin, Elavil, and Zomig for her migraines and getting some, though not much relief.
We found a fungal involvement and sensitivities to coffee, cantaloupe, dairy, green beans, potato, celery, soy, rye and venison. We put her and her husband on SF722 and the appropriate diet. We also supplemented with Magnesium Citramate and an oral progesterone supplement. It took 2 weeks but Pam has been headache free ever since. Her husband lost 14 pounds in 21 days on the fungal program. She continues on the Magnesium and Progesterone.
PRODUCT OF THE MONTH
A few months ago I recommended a 5mw, 670 pulsed laser from Mid American Marketing (800-922-1744). I think that is a wonderful laser for stimulating acupuncture points, neurolymphatic reflexes, desensitizing, etc.
For those of you who would prefer the effects of a laser that discharges in a line instead of a dot, there is a new laser on the market. First I must say the helium neon light this laser puts out is not a line but it is more of an elongated rectangle. It is 635nm, 5mw and I find it very effective. One tip about Mediclear (Thorne Research): We believe it to be the best by far of those type products on the market (meal replacement, detox, hypo-allergenic, fasting product, etc.). We suggest taking alittle and putting it in a vial to use in your test kit. The sample packs they send out, do not test as good in some cases as the samples you place in vials. The mylar packet it is in can give you a false negative test. I have seen this occur on numerous occasions. Take care until next time.

3. Personal Seminars with Dr. Lebowitz: Dr. Lebowitz teaches seminars to one or two doctors at a time in his home/office in Grand Junction, CO. It is approximately 4 miles from the airport serviced by United, Delta and Continental Airlines. Seminars run from 9:00-4:00. These classes are tailored to meet your individual needs and can be as basic or advanced as you would like. Treatment for you and/or your family can be included in the teaching. I am pleased to announce a seminar I will be co-teaching with Jay Wilson DC at the Red Lion Hotel, Denver, CO on Sunday, May 5, 2002 from 9-5. The seminar fee is $200 if paid by April 1st, otherwise $225. Students and CA's are $125.
