Dear Colleagues

I hope you all are well and had great holidays. This spring I will continue to teach my one on one classes with physicians. It is a great opportunity to have a class tailor made to your needs and get treated at the same time. Classes run 9-4 for one day- Sundays are available as well as some week days. This winter/spring I will be having these classes in Colorado and I may also be available to teach them some days in Phoenix. Contact us to set up dates.

New Product

VegaLite-Vanilla (Thorne Research 1-800-228-1966)

For a protein supplement you can not beat Thorne’s VegaLite-Vanilla. It is made from rice and pea protein. In our practice we find many patients react poorly to whey protein (almost anyone with a casein sensitivity reacts even though technically whey is free of casein) as well as to chocolate (a methylxanthine). This product doesn't have either substance in it and is sweetened with stevia. With 23 grams of protein per serving it is a great addition to your smoothie or just by itself as a pre-workout or even post workout drink.

Case History #1

Kathy is a 43 year old female who presented with fibromyalgia, joint pain (shoulder, hips, knees, ankles), depression, and fatigue. She was taking Cymbalta, Trazadone, and Singulair as well as 50,000 units of vitamin D weekly. None of these brought dramatic improvement though acupuncture treatments would temporarily bring some relief.

She also had West Nile virus in 2006 which she never felt she had fully recovered from.

On our exam she weakened on the following vials from AK Test Kits (1-888-323-0625): virus composite, casein, gliadin, alpha solanine, and various methylxanthines. The supplements she needed were: LuRong Supreme, Morinda Supreme, Golden Thread Supreme (Supreme Nutrition 1-800-922-1744) as well as Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil. Even though Morinda and Melia might overlap they both tested very strong on the "distance test" and her symptoms were severe enough that we gave both. Kathy suffered a fairly severe caffeine withdrawal after she started the program. Afterwards she experienced a significant increase in energy. I was unavailable and she saw a colleague of mine a few weeks later. He found she needed to change her supplements to Alaria Supreme and Iodine-Tyrosine (Thorne Research 1-800-228-1966). She also continued to stay off the solanines, gliadin, casein, and methylxanthines. The virus composite tested negative. I then saw her a few weeks later (2 months after the initial visit). Her joint pain had diminished by 90+ % since her first visit and her fatigue by 75%. She no longer took Singulair (she never mentioned the extent of her respiratory problems). Once again her supplements changed. She still needed the Alaria Supreme and Cod Liver Oil but now needed Endo Supreme and Camu Supreme. She didn't need the Iodine Tyrosine. On patients that have had severe issues it isn't unusual that supplements change periodically as they recover. Needless to say Kathy is very pleased and we will continue to monitor her.

Case History #2 Classic AK

Laura is a 45 year old woman. She had a pulmonary embolism 8 years ago and since then has had trouble breathing. I see her sporadically and she is off gliadin, casein, and solanine (as they cause inflammation and pain in various parts of her body) and the only supplement she is on is Endo Supreme. Last week Laura had severe chest pains and thought she was having a heart attack (she is not a hypochondriac and usually avoids going to doctors). She also had no appetite for a few weeks prior to this. She went to the emergency room and they did a CT with contrast to see if she had another embolism, as well as extensive lab work and 3 EKG's. They couldn't find anything and told her to see her family doctor. He too came up with nothing and told her to see a pulmonologist. Meanwhile the chest pain continued. Being a friend of mine I had her come and see me. We found a hiatal hernia syndrome, multiple rib subluxations, and bilateral weakness of the sternal division of the pectoralis major muscle. We corrected these findings (in my 30 years of practice I never had a patient have so much pain when trying to correct a hiatal hernia finding). After the treatment she felt like she was going to vomit.

By the next day she was asymptomatic and wanted to go hiking. Usually when she goes on a hike she gets winded very easily but this time found her respiratory capacity much improved. Her appetite also returned. Her hospital bill was $5000+.

Even though we and others have developed some great new AK procedures these past few years, never forget the basics.

Classic AK tidbit

I do a rather rudimentary cardiac screen on patients that I believe picks up a tendency towards more serious issues and perhaps helps avert them. The screening has 2 parts- 1) this is a classic old AK test (I am not sure who developed it). Have the patient stand and test the subscapularis muscles one at a time. If neither is weak, have the person do 10 moderate vertical jumps and retest the subscapularis muscles. If either is weak, it is a positive test. The test is typically negated by the heart neurolymphatic reflexes and one of the following supplements from Thorne Research: Perfusia, L-carnitine and Omega 3/w CoQ10. Rubbing the points and supplementing usually brings a negative test by next visit. 2) Have the patient prone. Have them rotate their neck to one side and see if the muscle stays strong. If it does have them stay in that position for 10 seconds and retest- if the muscle weakens that is a positive test. Do this test on both sides. A positive test is usually negated by either Thorne’s Perfusia and/or Omega 3 w/ CoQ10. Supplementation usually brings a negative test by next visit.

Again I cannot say with for certain what these tests represent but conceptually the first test to me stresses the heart in some ways like hard exercise would while the second test could slow blood flow in people with plaques in their arteries and by finding and treating these early- it could be very helpful.

More on Schisandra Supreme (1-800-922-1744)

This has become one of my favorite products. Besides being perhaps the best therapeutic herb for the liver that I utilize (helps normalize liver enzymes even in hepatitis), it is an effective broad spectrum anti-microbial in many cases. Schisandra also has very beneficial effects for the reproductive organs. It can increase libido in fatigued patients (male and female), help with erectile dysfunction and infertility. It also increases nitric oxide levels in the circulation (increasing athletic and sexual stamina). It has been shown to help protect the skin from sun and wind damage. Along with other Supreme Products due to its wide range of applications, I test it on each patient and prescribe it when it strengthens.

6. Body Restoration An Owners Manual An updated and expanded version of my first book Body Mechanics published almost 30 years ago. Part 1 has a chapter on each organ/gland. Each chapter teaches basic anatomy and physiology, causes and symptoms of dysfunction, as well as simple treatments your patient can do at home to complement your treatment. Part 2 explains the role of dysbiosis, food intolerances, toxic metals, nutritional deficiencies and neurotransmitter imbalances in health.

The book is a great review for the doctor, but better yet it is a great tool to sell to your patient. It will give them a better understanding of how their body works and the causes of health and disease, as well as the rationale of why you treat the way you do. It is very pro chiropractic. Volume discounts are available should you want to sell them to your patient and a kindle edition should hopefully be available in the future. Some time later in the year my wife hopes to publish a cookbook to complement this book.
