Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to issue #100. When I started this newsletter about 9 years ago I would not have envisioned it lasting this long and that we'd grow to about 900 copies per issue. We thank all of you for the positive feedback we've gotten over the years on the newsletter and we hope to continue for many more years.

Chiropractic has changed much over the past 9 years. Yesterday I went to visit a local DC for an adjustment. He has a small office in his home, is 90% cash, does not rush you through. Now, so many DC's need hi tech businesses to survive and are tied to HMO's, PPO's, etc.

We need to know all the latest codes, practice building tips and tricks and see so many people a day just to pay office overhead and school loans, let alone make a decent living. Paperwork takes up as much time as working on patients.

Being an ex-hippy I rejected this model a long time ago and practice more like the local DC I spoke of above but I also applaud all of you that do it the more modern way and can handle the high overhead, high paperwork practices, etc. We need both types of physicians. I do recommend that you all try to minimize your debt load as it definitely adds to stress load. Just because we are a physician it does not mean we can neglect our health. We need to schedule in exercise time, family time, eat healthfully and keep our priorities straight, which is one of the hardest things I have found.

I doubt on my deathbed I'll be thinking, I wish I could have seen 95 patients a week instead of 85 but I might wish I would have spent more time with my spouse and children. Because of our move a year ago, increased debt load, etc., it was the first year in many we did not take a vacation and I still feel the effects of missing it. Make sure you schedule some in (you could come to Colorado for one of one on one seminars mentioned on pg. 3 and take some extra time exploring the beauty here).

PRODUCT OF THE MONTH

1. OscapPlus (Thorne Research 1 800-228-1966) - a few months ago we talked about the Thorne product Ipriflavone -a soy derivative that reportedly stops bone loss in peri and post menopausal women. They also have a product called Oscap used in osteoporosis and fracture cases composed of calcium & magnesium citrate-malate, folinic acid, D, K, B6, B12, Bo and Va and horsetail. Now there is a 3rd product called OscapPlus that combines these 2. In AK testing on weak muscles we have found it to be quite effective. Some elderly patients do better on OscapPlus, some on straight Ipriflavine. Dose is usually 2-3x/day of OscapPlus.

CASE HISTORIES

1. Jeff - a 44-year-old civil engineer has suffered from bad hay fever for 15 years ever since he moved to Colorado. It lasts March-October with daily sinus headaches, itchy eyes, nose and throat, insomnia, fatigue, brain fog and crankiness. He has gone in the past for steroid shots which used to help but now they do not.

Antihistamines do not help.

Testing showed Jeff to weaken on the following: CCK, Dairy, avocado, green beans, cottonwood, and Russian olive pollen. I was surprised we did not find fungal involvement and I felt like there must be something I was missing but that was all the findings. We desensitized him and placed him on zinc picolinate and B-Complex #1. Jeff has been asymptomatic ever since and is very happy. It is hard to say if it was the desensitization procedure or the lowering of his total load by avoiding dairy or a combination of the two but it turned out to be a very simple case. I usually feel more comfortable with more findings, as there are more variables we are impacting but his was quick and easy.

2. Kaye, a 62 year of woman, had been suffering from chronic diarrhea of 5 years duration. She had been referred by another chronic diarrhea patient I reported about that had really dramatic results, so Kaye was expecting it too. She also suffered from fatigue, shoulder pain, and needed to lose a little weight.

Testing suggested parasite and fungal involvement and sensitivity to dairy and tomato. We desensitized her, worked the anterior deltoid and serratus anterior, put her on the appropriate diet and SF722. Artecin and Glucosamine Sulfite (all Thorne). She returned in 3 weeks diarrhea free, virtually asymptomatic and had lost ten pounds. She is now on Basic B and Glucosamine and continues to do well. Most chronic diarrhea cases have both fungal and parasite involvement.

MATERIAL AVAILABLE FROM DR. MICHAEL LEBOWITZ

1. NEW VIDEO: Correcting Chronic Health Problems 1998: This video seminar approximately 5 hours long will teach the physician a simple to apply, effective protocol to treat patients with chronic fatigue, allergies, chemical sensitivities, intestinal dysbiosis, (fungal, bacterial, parasitic, and viral infections), food sensitivities, altered intestinal permeability, toxic metal problems, endocrine dysfunction, nutritional imbalances, chronic pain and subluxation. Knowledge of basic muscle testing is helpful. A complete protocol is taught that you can start using immediately to treat even the most chronic patients. The video is suited for both the novice and the advanced practitioners in our work. A complete set of advanced notes accompanies the video. This video supersedes our previous ones and was taped at our 11/1/98 Las Vegas Seminar. The cost is $200 ppd.
