Dear Colleagues, I hope you all are well. This has been a busy summer with many doctors coming here for our one on one seminars. It is a pleasure to meet so many of you and spend a day together.
I have gotten many calls this past month asking my opinion on a detox unit called the Bio-Cleanse. I have never used or even seen the unit so I cannot comment on it. Some of the promotion of the unit has included handing out some labs results on a patient of mine. These results were achieved on a different unit altogether - the BEFE Unit. So realize I have no experience with this new unit and do not know if it is effective or not. It is my opinion though, on both of these units, that any change in water color you see is not due to released toxins as you get the same type color change by putting the unit in water that does not have anyone's feet in it. Electricity applied to water in certain ways causes minerals to precipitate out of solution and the combination of these and other metals (in the unit itself) can cause brown and green water and even black flecks.
My original observation on the BEFE Unit is that it does cause increased urinary metal excretion and I have used it on myself for that purpose. I have rarely used it on patients because the way my office is run (basically a one man show) it would be quite inconvenient.
Also, I have been extremely satisfied with my metal protocols I presently use - utilizing products like Captomer, Thiocid, Glutathione, lymph drainage, etc. Whether or not using the machine in addition, will yield extra benefits to what I presently do is hard to say. On the patient we ran the lab-work on for the BEFE Unit we had stopped other treatment so as not to have other variables affect the lab- test. There are, though, many positive testimonies, so if you treat lots of "toxic metal patients", can afford the unit, and it would not disrupt how you run your office it may be worth experimenting with. Either way I would not neglect using the rest of our protocols, which I feel are more foundational.
CLINICAL OBSERVATION
In the past I have given my opinion that GV-20 is a neurolymphatic reflex for the pineal, GV-21 for the hypothalamus and GV-24 for the pituitary and those observations have come from much clinical research, correlations, etc. We also spoke of how GV-19 has something to do with olfaction. I have found recently in most of my chronic patients that if you 2 point with the patient touching GV-1 (tip of coccyx) and also touching one of the above or other endocrine NL's that together they will weaken a strong indicator muscle (e.g. GV-1 is strong, adrenal NL is strong -together they weaken a strong indicator muscle).
The correction can be rubbing the reflexes simultaneously or lasering simultaneously. These findings are common in 'metal toxic patients' and 'endocrine patients'. I am not exactly sure what we are correcting, so if you experiment with this please share your findings and ideas with me.

CASE HISTORIES
1. Angela is a 42-year-old woman who presented with fairly sever fatigue, gas, bloating, TMJ, hip, foot and ankle pain, brain fog, depression, PMS and constipation.
Our examination suggested fungal and parasite involvement as well as helicobacter. She showed sensitivities to dairy, corn and pintos. We desensitized her and put her on an appropriate diet and supplemented with SF722, SF734, Artecin and Basic Nutrients I (all Thorne1-800-228-1966). She returned 26 days later and all her symptoms were "gone" except for some ankle and TMJ discomfort that was easily corrected with basic AK. She continues on Basic Nutrients.
Her husband, 44, a marathon runner suffered a heart attack in 1998 15 minutes into a run. After a recovery period he has been back to running marathons and is only taking garlic capsules. Except for some decreased stamina and weakness he had no complaints. He tested dysbiosis free and our only finding was a need for L-carnitine, which he reports brought back his stamina and strength. We have had a few cases like this where the patient needs to stay on long-term supplementation of L-carnitine and does very well on it. We've also had a few patients who have never had cardiac abnormalities who test for continuous supplementation. I'm not sure if we are preventing future problems or not but these patients are typically folks that are very physically active and quite a few are vegetarians (Carnitine almost is exclusively supplied by animal products).
MATERIAL AVAILABLE FROM DR. MICHAEL LEBOWITZ
1. VIDEO: Correcting Chronic Health Problems 2001:This video seminar approximately 6 hours long will teach the physician a simple to apply, effective protocol to treat patients with chronic fatigue, allergies, chemical sensitivities, intestinal dysbiosis, (fungal, bacterial, parasitic, and viral infections), food sensitivities, altered intestinal permeability, toxic metal problems, endocrine dysfunction, nutritional imbalances, chronic pain and subluxation. Knowledge of basic muscle testing is helpful. A complete protocol is taught that you can start using immediately to treat even the most chronic patients. The video is suited for both the novice and the advanced practitioners in our work. A complete set of advanced notes accompanies the video. This video supercedes our previous ones and was taped at our 4/29/01 LaGuardia Seminar. The cost is $225 ppd.
2. Clinical Indications of Thorne Research Products: This handout, over 20 pages long, has both academic and clinical observations on well over 100 products I use in my office. Approximately 90% of the products I use are by Thorne Research. Reasons are given. This handout is free. Also see it on our website www.michaellebowitzdc.com
