CLINICAL TIDBITS
1. Often I have patients whose symptom picture (agitated depression, insomnia, etc.) suggests they might benefit from 5-Hydroxy tryptophan yet it tests negative with Applied Kinesiology. I found that on many of these patients it will test positive if tested with their eyes closed. We like to dose L-Tyrosine early in the day and 5-HTP later in the day. Possibly having them close their eyes simulates sleep and fine tunes the test.
2. Dr John Manning has found that many patients who test negative on dysbiosis still may actually be positive but that it only shows via TL to the gum tissue or dental plaque. The positive TL will be negated by the correct anti-microbial. He also finds CO-Q10 often negates a positive TL to gum tissue. We have recently started using this procedure and have found it positive on some patients who typically "clear" of dysbiosis but it reoccurs frequently.
CASE HISTORIES - also submitted by John Manning DC of West Boylston, MA
1. Case #1 03/15/02 - Patient Michael H presents on referral from existing patient.
CC: Right eye twitching constantly.
Onset: Six years ago with mild, intermittent R. eye flutter. There was gradual progression in intensity and frequency since then. Since March, 2001 - twitching has been constant awake. Previous treatments: Neurontin, Tegretol - no relief. Botox injections four yrs ago - yielded about twelve months of symptomatic relief. Now un-responsive to Botox (most recent treatment 4 weeks prior to presentation). Injections (Beth Israel Hospital, Boston Mass.), caused some facial droop on right.
Neurologist arranged brain scan - reported to patient that there is a sort of "intra-cranial short circuiting" due to unusually close proximity of a blood vessel and a nerve. Brain surgery was actually offered as an option. Patient refused.
Blood work was negative for Lyme Disease and other infectious markers.
03/15/10: Applied Kinesiology work-up at this office Organ associated muscle inhibitions...T. minor ("51 percenter")/thyroid; subscap/heart; TFL 51/lg. intestine; sartorius 51/adrenal; PMS 51/liver; electromagnetic/pineal. All weaknesses negated by therapy localization to LIVER. Other:
...Positive double T-L: two R. upper molars to R. eye.
...Weakness to STOOL sample (as well as ALL positive finding above) negated by SF722 (anti-fungal), SF734 (anti-bacterial), Basic Nutrients II, vitamin C (all Thorne Research 1 800-228-1366) Patient was desensitized using laser; and sent away with appropriate nutrition.
04/26/02: Follow-up - "Totally symptom-free since 04/12/02. First period free from twitching in six years (save for initial response to Botox four years ago)". Negative T-L eye; negative T-L teeth; negative STOOL sample.
2. Case #2 03/15/02 - Lance L. presents (150 miles round-trip) on referral from his sister (a patient) who lives nearby.
CC: "Spastic Colon" History: Four or five years ago patient began experiencing intermittent abdominal pain, especially after eating big meals - Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. Gradually the intensity and frequency of these episodes increased. Eventually, sharp abdominal pain and diarrhea which subsided within a few hours would occur every morning.
Since November of 2001, the patient had been suffering from constant abdominal pain/aching (as if he'd been "punched in the stomach"), bouts of bloody diarrhea alternating with constipation. He was unable to find relief by any means, and could tolerate almost no foods. He noted that he had subsisted on basically white rice and water for the five years prior to his initial presentation at my office.
Colonoscopy was "normal". Muscle relaxants were prescribed. Patient refused them after reading the warnings and contraindications. He was advised to reduce his "stress level". His primary physician stated - "There's nothing we can do for you. There is no cure for spastic colon". Four acupuncture treatments were of no help to him.
03/15/02: Applied Kinesialogy evaluation at this office Manual muscle test inhibitions...T. minor 51/thyroid, TFL 51/lg intestine; sartorius 51/adrenal; PMC bilateral/stomach; PMS 51/liver; electromagnetic/pineal; Positive food sensitivity testing...Potato chips, orange, rice, skim milk, bagel. Body fluid testing..weakness to exposure to ORAL sample. All above weaknesses abolished by BERBERCAP (antibacterial) and Basic Nutrients III. Patient was desensitized and sent away with nutrition as above, and instructions to eliminate positive foods until follow-up.
04/05/02: follow-up to first visit. All fluid samples test negative. Sartorius 51 weak...negated by Berbercap, Basic Nutrients III and Super EPA. (all Thorne Research 1 800-228-1966).
Patient reported 99% improvement within 3 days of beginning supplements. Stating that he was extremely skeptical that anything I had done could really be of benefit, he wanted to "really test" the treatment. He stated that he ate anything and everything, save for the foods I had "flagged" at our first meeting. He reported "zero abdominal pains, zero cramping, and regular painless bowel movements. Patient also noted the gaining-back of nine pounds, which he had lost over time with diarrhea and simply the inability to consume adequate calories.
