Dear Colleagues

I hope you all are well. I hope to see some of you at the upcoming ICAK meeting in LA in June. Somehow I am going to try to present my solanine and methylxanthine papers and show how I take a patient through our basic protocol, all in the 1 hour time slot I am scheduled for on June 3rd. It should be fun and the line up of speakers is great. Thorne, Supreme Nutrition and AK Test kits will be there too.

I have been a little perplexed on what to write about this month. I have been working on a few new tests that I have found incredibly useful and collecting data to share with you but it will be best to wait and put that all in the next newsletter when the data is all compiled.

I think I will start this one by sharing some clinical tidbits that I may have shared in the past – or may not have.

1. Usually when solanines and/or methylxanthines test positive and the patient agrees to avoid those foods and you do a recheck a few weeks later- if they still test positive it most often means the patient was not 100% compliant (may have been unintentional). Usually it (solanine and/or methylxanthine) will test negative if they have totally avoided it. If you want to see if the patient still needs to avoid it (if they have been 100% compliant) you can have them eat a small amount one day before coming in to be retested, and see if it still tests positive. If it does, the avoidance needs to continue. I would say 40% of the methylxanthine cases and 70% of the solanine cases need somewhat long term avoidance. In our congregation we have four people who avoid solanine. Unintentionally at our Passover seder, the matzah ball soup had some red pepper added that no one knew about. The next day 3 of the 4 people had a flare up of old symptoms that hadn’t been there since they started the avoidance and the solanine vial then tested positive on all four of them. Many of these intolerances are passed down through generations and cannot just be “desensitized away”. I have 3 generations of some families as patients, and if the child shows intolerant to solanine at least one of the parents always does, etc. If both parents have a solanine problem all of the children do. If you just started getting this newsletter you may want to read the solanine and methylxanthine papers on my website.

2. When patients are not going to be compliant on solanines or methylxanthines make sure they at least take a blocking substance

(whichever of the following tests best: Takesumi Supreme, Reishi Supreme, Thera Supreme and Body Guard Supreme 1-800-922-1744) whenever they choose to ingest it. It is not as ideal as avoidance but will help somewhat.

3. When a patient needs to increase serotonin levels- usually either

L-Tryptophan or 5-HTP (Thorne 1-800-228-1966) will test positive. You have to let your testing decide which to prescribe as they each show up in about the same number of patients and usually a patient will test on either one or the other. Oftentimes if the patient has insomnia, the product will only test positive if the patient has their eyes closed. These products work well for the type of depression that manifests more as agitation, as opposed to wanting to hide from the world (in those cases L-Tyrosine usually is the product of choice). For the agitated patient often Pharma-Gaba (Thorne) or Ashwaganda (Supreme Nutrition) is the treatment of choice if not Tryptophan (in my practice the Gaba or Ashwaganda tests about twice as often as the Tryptophan while Tyrosine test positive more often than all the others). I always prescribe Tyrosine and Tryptophan without food though Gaba and Ashwaganda can be with food.

Two case histories from my friend and colleague here in Grand Junction Dr. Kim

1. Nathan is a 77 year old male. He came with a relatively consistent pattern of rectal bleeding of over six month’s duration. He felt the radiation therapy on his prostate caused the bleeding. But, his primary care physician couldn't find any reason and didn't do further follow-up.
He was taking some prescription and non prescription drugs as of 12/09.
RX - Warfarin, Lipitor, Diltiazem ER, Ramipril, Metoprolol, Celebrex, Hydrochlorothiazide, Folic Acid
Over Counter - Aspirin, Cal-Mag Citrate with Vit D (Solaray), Super Omega 3-6-9, B complex, Extra Strength Tylenol

With AK testing, I found following vials to test positive: fungus2, pesticide, food additives, solanine, caffeine, pesticides (AK Test Kits 1-888-323-0625).
The fungus2 and pesticide vials were negated by Morinda Supreme (Supreme Nutrition). Alaria Supreme also strengthened weak muscles and was prescribed.
He took those two supplements. He also did strict anti fungal diet, non-solanine, and non-caffeine diet.
He came back after 3 weeks and said bleeding had totally stopped in a week.
On his second visit all previous findings were negative and I needed to add Thera Supreme and a fatty acid supplement.

2. Clark, a 49 year old man came in with severe knee pain (Pain rated at 8-9 on a 10 scale). An M.D. diagnosed gout even though his uric acid level was normal. He suffered that knee pain for 2yrs.
I found the following vials (AK Test Kits) virus, chlamydia, Int.Parasites, Ext. Parasites, Borrelia, fungus2, vaccination, pesticides.
He tested positive on the following food vials: cranberry, mushroom, egg, squash, blackberry, corn, sweet potato, turkey, buckwheat, mango, gluten, carrot, sardine, chickpea, celery, honey, and "solanine".
Takesumi Supreme blocked the virus, Int.Para, Ext. Para, Vaccination, and Pesticides vials.
Phytolaca (Eclectic) blocked Chlamydia and Borrelia. SF722 (Thorne) blocked fungus2.
I also supplemented with Basic Nutrient II (Thorne) as per testing.
He followed strict diet instructions well (off the positive foods and all refined sweetening and fermented foods).
After 3 weeks, on the second visit, his pain decreased dramatically (Pain rated at 2.5-3). He still tested positive on solanines and continued to avoid them.
After one month from the second visit, the knee pain was totally gone. He mentioned that solanines make him feel symptomatic.
I have had lots of great successes with your protocols. Thank you.
