Hoping you are well. I wanted to get another newsletter out before heading down to spring training. I know I am going to be working with at least 1 or 2 people in the Royals organization, at least 1 with the Rangers and we will see from there. For me it is mainly a fun semi-vacation and I really like seeing if we can enhance performance and speed injury recovery. I am also anxious to see how the players respond to the new product Thera-supreme (1-800-922-1744). It is broad spectrum and I think it will make it harder for the players to contract colds and influenza (which they are prone to) as well as help them detox better and supply many phyto-nutrients in whole food form. For those that take it, it tastes good in grape or apple juice (not citrus) and I usually add some frozen fruit. I have received mixed reviews (taste wise) when taking it in water. I have actually had some cancer patients on it (I use 3 scoops daily- triple the normal dose) post chemo/radiation/surgery and they feel it has been giving them more mental clarity and cleaning out their bodies faster. Of course we do not interfere with their oncologists recommendations. Testing wise, it often blocks chemicals, metals, some microbes and some organ NL’s and I look at it more like a general multi nutrient product.
New Product
Pharma GABA-PRO (Thorne Research 1-800-228-1966)- As you all know, it is essential that our patients (and ourselves) have balanced and optimal amounts of the neurotransmitters. Epinephrine and Serotonin are crucial. We often give L-Tyrosine to make more epinephrine. It works wonders for people that have the type of depression that is accompanied by low energy, low drive of all types (including low libido), and the desire to be left alone. On the other hand, anxious depression with nervous energy responds better to L-Tryptophan or 5HTP which convert to both serotonin and melatonin. Another critical neurotransmitter is GABA. GABA is the most important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Low GABA levels can lead to insomnia, depression and even epilepsy. GABA can promote relaxation without drowsiness or fatigue (which are common side effects with other products). It can also decrease salivary cortisol levels. Thornes’ GABA, unlike most on the market comes from lactobacillus hilgardii (traditionally used in
kimchi preparation). This form of GABA has been shown to out perform the synthetic varieties. Typical dose is 100-200 mg up to 3 times daily. As with any neurotransmitter promoting substances, be careful if the patient is on any prescription medications that alter neurotransmitter levels as this can over-enhance their effect. On the other hand, it is very often a much better alternative than some of these medications and has virtually no side effects.

In the last newsletter, I talked about a patient that I suggested to change from taking Armour thyroid to Synthroid. I immediately got a number of phone calls asking why. Each patient that comes in I test all their prescription medications for either strengthening, weakening, or a neutral response. If the medication weakens a strong muscle it can lessen your results. In this case, the patient weakened on her Armour and since I knew her MD, I knew the MD would co-operate. She strengthened on my sample of Synthyroid. I rarely do this due to legalities, etc. but in this case, with diarrhea as the main presenting symptom and a co-operative MD, I wanted to correct every variable I could. Whether her problem would have resolved just from our other interventions (see last newsletter for details) is impossible to say. I have nothing against Armour compared to other thyroid medications. This was based on testing response and clinical judgment.
Case History (I apologize to the doc that sent it as I erased their name by mistake and only kept the case history)
Hi Michael: Just FYI, I thought this an interesting case: 12 year old boy with ADHD but obviously brilliant. Due to some weird behaviors and his brilliance he has been termed "weird" and so is not very popular. When he came in for his first visit, he thrashed about on my couch, and was generally agitated and uncomfortable in his skin, squinting and pretending to fall asleep and then talking inappropriately. Generally, acting weird! I wondered what in heck I would be able to do for him, but forged ahead with the testing.
He weakened on the fungus vials only, which TL'd to his brain. He also weakened on wheat, cows milk, citrus, tomatoes, banana, soy and sugar which all TL'd to his brain. I put him on 3 SF 722 (Thorne Research 1-800-922-1744), 3 Body Guard Supreme (Supreme Nutrition Products 1-800-922-1744), and 6 Catalyn and 3 Hypothalamex from Standard Process.
When I saw him today, - a month later - it was like visiting with a different boy. He was alert, happy, tracking, self-possessed, interested, very present in the situation and said his "cobwebs" were gone. He said he was less tired and had a new friend at school. His mother was beaming. I gave him back all of his foods except for soy and sugar but told him to go easy on wheat, milk, tomatoes and citrus. I left him on 2 Body Guard Supreme, a preventive dose of 1 SF 722, 2 Nutri-ADD and 4 Catalyn and to see me in Feb.
