I hope you all are well. I just got back from a trip to Arizona where I had the opportunity to work on some baseball players in the Cubs and Angels organizations.
Treatments usually consist of going through our whole protocol for dysbiosis, metals, food intolerances, nutrient deficiencies, etc. We then test all the muscles via Goodheart/Walther/Beardall tests and typically do origin and insertion work on the ones that test weak and spindle cell work on hypertonic ones. We then place the player in the particular position that elicits the most symptoms (e.g a particular part of their pitching stance, etc.) and retest all the muscles and apply the same fixes. We then go into the gym and have them go through a few reps of each part of their workout routine and see if any of these cause the muscle imbalances to return and if so fix it and modify the routine so that is does not cause recidivism. We may also evaluate their shoes/cleats, etc. We then sometimes have them bat or throw for a minute or two and re-evaluate once again and adjust and fix accordingly. Results have been very gratifying. The most common muscle weakness we see by far is the posterior division of the deltoid muscle on their throwing side, followed by the pectoralis clavicular. Misc ramblings
As most of you know I have had a research practice for close to 30 years- seeing between 5-12 patients daily. All are referred from physicians or existing patients, no advertising, etc. This type of practice has allowed me to concentrate on working on patients with all types of chronic problems. Some fly in and we work on them intensively for a few days, while others drive over every few weeks. I am a perfectionist and often have to think outside the box to help these people. I am also a skeptic- even when it comes to alternative health techniques, gadgets, pills, etc. I am constantly involved in blind testing of products to see what really works consistently. Back 20 years ago when I was heavily involved with Thorne Research I played a significant role in quality control often testing raw materials (e.g 3 different manufacturers of zinc picolinate that they could purchase from to put in their product) to see which tested best and then selecting that one for inclusion in the product. That lasted for a few years and then ceased. The owners were very quality conscious but didn’t understand AK and its use in insuring the best possible products. Recently as many of you know, Thorne underwent a change of ownership. The new owners are very supportive of AK and understand its potential use in R&D to make the best available supplements. They have asked me to be part of their medical advisory board to help in research, product development, product quality of existing products, as well as acting as a consultant to AK practitioners to answer their questions. I agreed as long as it would not interfere with my main passion as objective researcher/physician, and that I could speak openly and frankly my opinion whether or not it abided by the company line. I had/have no desire to be a sales rep but want to continue my research and also help other physicians learn my protocols and help as many patients as possible. I also want to help make available the best quality products that can be manufactured. I will be compensated for this. I will still be seeing patients as usual but I want all of you to feel free to contact me by email or phone with patient questions etc. as I will try to be available to you in as timely a manner as I can. So I will be keeping up all my other work but adding the consultant position too. Thorne was and is in my opinion the cleanest, best, source of vitamins, minerals, amino acids etc., and I would like it to be even better. CASE HISTORY
Bruce is a 74 year old man who spent over a decade working in China setting up factories. In many of his locations the pollution was so bad that “you couldn’t see the sun because of the air quality”. He was seeing an osteopath in his home town which is about 2 hours away who was unable to help him and gave him the option of going to the Mayo Clinic or to me. Being more naturally oriented he chose to see me first. When he presented he needed help walking (cane) due to his unsteady gait. He also fell “quite often”. This had been going on for 8 months and progressing. Both legs were extremely swollen, painful, red, and hot and he was diagnosed with prostate cancer with a PSA of 21. He opted against surgery and radiation and decided to let it runs its course. He came to me due to his balance/gait issues. He also occasionally had a metallic odor to him. Our initial exam showed positive on the following vials (AK Test Lits 1-888-323-0625): Virus, Mixed Parasite, Mixed Internal Parasite, Methylxanthines, Casein, Gliadin, Albumin (egg), Alpha-solanine, mercury.
We took him off the positive food toxins and gave him the following supplements that he tested for: Thorne (1-800-228-1966): Captomer 250 (1-2x/day), Methylcobalamin (1x1); Supreme Nutrition (1-800-922-1744): Morinda Supreme (3x3), Oral Defense (1 drop rubbed on gums before and after brushing teeth), Takesumi Supreme (1 scoop 2x/day), Camu Supreme (1 scoop 2x/day).
Bruce was very compliant and returned in 3 weeks. His pain and swelling had decreased about 70% and he no longer needed a cane to walk. We decided to test individual metals and showed mercury, copper, platinum, gold, iron, nickel, lead, thallium and beryllium. He no longer showed any microbes. Because he was 100% compliant, the food toxins did not test positive but we felt it was premature to try re-introducing the foods to his diet. He continued on the diet. We dropped Oral Defense and Methyl Cobalamine and added Gluathione SR and L-Tyrosine (Thorne). The rest of the supplements stayed the same.
We saw Bruce again in 5 weeks. His legs were now normal- no pain, redness, or swelling. He did test positive on methylxanthines. Supplements stayed the same. By a month later he had a spryness in his step like a 20 year old. Aluminum and lead were added to the findings (as you chelate metals out it is not unusual to see new ones pop up as they come “out of storage”).
We had him re-introduce small amounts of the food toxins before coming in last week to see how sensitive his body was to them. Only the methylxanthines tested positive which meant he could tolerate the others at least at the twice weekly amounts we had him experiment with. We will have him increase these to see if he can handle more (but no methylxanthines at all). His supplementation stays steady (Captomer 250, Glutathione SR, Takesumi, Camu) except we were able to drop the tyrosine. He still has some dizziness at times but it doesn’t affect his gait. I feel like he has his life back. His PSA has dropped from 21 to 14 without any medical treatment which has been an added bonus we did not expect. No metals tested positive but Captomer 250 and Takesumi Supreme still did so we can assume there are still metals there, though much diminished. We continue to see him approximately once a month.
Bruce is a pleasure to work with. At 72, I had no idea if we could help or not but he has responded well. It will be interested to follow his PSA over time and see how he does with staying well.
