Dear Colleagues

I hope you are well. We have a new product this month as well as upcoming seminars scheduled. The ICAK meeting in DC was excellent and Dr Robinson and I were privileged in winning one of the two paper of the year awards for our paper on biofilms (available on my website) http://michaellebowitzdc.com/html/BiofilmAKPaper.htm

From Sept 17th to October 15th we will be out of the country and to make orders with AK test kits during those dates you will have to do it by email or may order directly if you are already set up with an account. If you do not have an account it may take longer so if you think you may be ordering in the future please email Cynthia aktestkits@aol.com and she can set up an online account for you. We will not be taking phone calls at that time but will up until then. I will also be seeing patients in Scottsdale AZ from August 13th through mid Sept and be available for one on one classes, too.

Fall seminars by Dr Lebowitz in NYC and Phoenix

I will be teaching seminars this fall in NYC on Oct 26th and Phoenix/Tempe on November 9th. These classes will teach our whole updated protocol and will be for both the beginning and advanced practitioner in my work for treating microbes, metals, foods, etc. For a more complete write-up go to http://michaellebowitzdc.com/html/Seminars2014.html. You can register directly from that page for either class. You can also call 480-991-5555 to register and pay by phone. Student discounts ($125) are available. Email noach2343@aol.com to sign up as a student. We encourage early sign ups so we can send you notes as well as things to bring that will enhance the workshops. We do not anticipate another east coast class for quite some time.

New Product

Tulsi Supreme (Supreme Nutrition 1-800-922-1744)

Tulsi Supreme™ is the powdered herb Ocimum sanctum, also known as holy basil. It is indigenous to India and Southeast Asia. This herb has been cultivated in India for approximately 5000 years and has been one of the most revered herbs used for physical, emotional and spiritual balance and healing. In general it has many uses: it is a very potent adaptogen that helps fight stress (including stresses like noise pollution, along with physical and emotional stress) and is one of the best adrenal supports available (animal studies show it can lower elevated cortisol levels). It helps normalize blood sugar and cholesterol (increases HDL while decreasing total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides when needed), is a broad spectrum antimicrobial (contains eugenol which is also an antimicrobial that exists in cloves), reduces uric acid levels (has been used as a kidney stone treatment), and acts as a mood stabilizer (normalizes neurotransmitter levels).

Tulsi has Cox 2 inhibiting properties and thus is a potent anti-inflammatory agent. It has been used as part some cancer treatment protocols as it discourages new blood vessel growth to tumors, as well as protects healthy cells from side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. It has also been shown to be hepatoprotective for various chemicals including acetaminophen, and is a potent antioxidant having been shown to increase SOD and glutathione levels if needed.

It has no known side effects but, as with most herbs, caution is advised during pregnancy. It may be contraindicated in people with severe hypoglycemia or those on blood thinning medications. Also because of its strong adrenal restorative properties, depending on genetics, some people only need a very small dose - 1 cap daily while others may need up to 4 daily (one cap 4x/day). You may want to start low and increase if needed.

We test it on all patients but find it most useful when patients have a stressful lifestyle and need adrenal support, though it is also part of our antimicrobial armamentarium.

To find out more you can read Tulsi Holy Basil by Ryder Management Inc available on Amazon. I’d like to thank Dr Steve Gangemi who gave me the idea and motivation to research this herb more and encourage me to find a very clean source.

Info on existing products

1) Again thanks to Dr Steve Gangemi for his research in finding that Manjistha Supreme stimulates IL-10. IL-10 is an essential immune-regulator in the GI tract, and counteracts hyperactive immune responses as well as the inflammatory reaction of mast cells. It could be useful thus in all types of autoimmune diseases.

2) Recent studies with ashwaghanda have found it very useful in ADHD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, insomnia and severe depression. To read more see http://www.realnatural.org/bipolar-disorder-symptoms-improved-with-ashwagandha-treatment/

Case History from Amy Zalbowitz- Crested Butte, CO

Jane a 38 year old female came to see me last October. She had been struggling with hormone imbalances, night sweats, low sex drive, joint pain, mood swings, and diarrhea for two years. She was living in Minnesota and thought she might have contracted Lyme disease there. She weakened on the following vials Mixed Bartonella, Borrelia Burgdorferi, Mixed Borrelia, Giardia, Mixed Protozoa, Proteus Vulgaris, Candida Albicans, Candida Krusei, Mixed Candida, Titanium, Tin, Mercury, Mixed Metals, Casein, Lactose, Soy, Alpha Solanine, Methylxanthines, Thrombin, and Prothrombin (AK testkits 1-970-201-7406). Goldenthread Supreme, BFB1, BFB2, Hemoguard Supreme, and Takesumi Supreme strengthened (Supreme Nutrition 1-800-922-1744) as did Thornes Berbercap. Jane is a vegetarian and requested a protein powder. Thorne’s Vegalite vanilla strengthened her.

I recommended she follow an antifungal diet, eliminate her food sensitivities, and take the supplements that strengthened her. She kept me posted on her progress for about a week and then I never heard from her again. In March she recognized me in a lift line while skiing in a blizzard in Crested Butte. She said she followed the protocol I recommended for 3 weeks and had been feeling wonderful ever since. All her symptoms were gone; she felt the protocol had successfully eliminated her Lyme disease.

Dr L’s comments: You can see how Amy tested both composite microbial vials and some individual ones. I find that in almost all cases the composites are sufficient (not though for metals) though for someone from out of state I too sometimes will dig deeper if I do not have a chance to do a follow up appointment and I feel I might be missing something. Most cases that show borrelia need multiple treatments sometimes spaced fairly close together and supplements will change fairly often. Fortunately this case was not like that and she responded fantastically. Amy has developed a very successful practice that uses my protocols as the basis for most of what she does and she does an excellent job.

5. Body Restoration An Owners Manual - An updated and expanded version of my first book Body Mechanics published almost 30 years ago. Part 1 has a chapter on each organ/gland. Each chapter teaches basic anatomy and physiology, causes and symptoms of dysfunction, as well as simple treatments your patient can do at home to complement your treatment. Part 2 explains the role of dysbiosis, food intolerances, toxic metals, nutritional deficiencies and neurotransmitter imbalances in health. The book is a great review for the doctor, but better yet it is a great tool to recommend to your patient. It will give them a better understanding of how their body works and the causes of health and disease, as well as the rationale of why you treat the way you do. It is very pro chiropractic. It is available on kindle at http://www.amazon.com/Body-Restoration-Owners-Manual-ebook/dp/B0050653C4/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1353354004&sr=1-1 If you don’t have a kindle http://bodyrestorationanownersmanual.com/html/Order.html and we will send you a PDF form.
