We hope you are well. As this year comes to a close, I want to look back on it as it was a challenging year for many of us with tests of many types, sorrows, joys, etc.
The ICAK world suffered a major loss with the death of Dr. Wally Schmitt in November. In my opinion, Wally was the most brilliant man in AK. We taught together for 3 years as well as developed various techniques together (set point technique, fungal testing, immune reflexes, prostaglandin and leukotriene testing, along with a few more). I wouldn’t be the man or the practitioner I am now if it wasn’t for him. His work and memory will go on and he will be dearly missed. We had 2 wonderful online memorials for him. We also lost some other wonderful AK docs: Billy Maykel, Chris Gomez, Jim Madek also all good friends. Also personally, my spiritual mentor and rabbi, David Friedman died in Jerusalem of covid. I had helped him a few years ago “conquer” prostate cancer and his death was a big blow to me and many others.
After traveling mask less throughout the US for 6 weeks and being healthy throughout, our family while back in Hawaii at an outdoor birthday party of some 12 adults, 10 of us came down with “delta”. All are fine and we probably took more herbs and vitamins during that time than ever before. Andrographis, Melia, Camu, Artemesia were favorites along with Zinc, Glutathione, NAC, D, and a few others. The people that contracted it came from both the vaccinated and unvaccinated.
From a technique standpoint we developed a technique to help discern what diet is best for a person (paleo, vegan, etc.) and presented it at ICAK 2021 and our 2021 AZ seminar. It will become part of our protocol and will be taught in future classes. Also, we have gathered data on histamine intolerance in patients including a new provocation test that uncovers hidden histamine issues that are missed in straight testing. We are planning to present it at ICAK Atlanta in July 2022 and at future seminars.
We were also blessed with a 12-day visit from a Russian neuroscientist where we collaborated on a patient with a moderate tremor and hearing loss. Supreme Nutrition Products (800-922-1744) came out with 4 new products: American Ginseng, Artemesia, Chaste Tree, and Cat’s Claw. I act as the main quality control person testing each batch before purchase to make sure that besides passing the certificate of analysis it also performs well both clinically and on AK testing. We have some new products in the planning stage and as always we thank our product developers Heath McAllister ND, Tom Resz DC, Charlie Fagenholz DC, Walter Schmitt DC as well as Noah and myself. We continue to sponsor all students who would like to attend the yearly ICAK meeting as it is so important to us to see this discipline thrive as time goes on. Plans for 2022 include a spring seminar in Atlanta Date TBD, attending the ICAK meeting in late July and presenting there, and a fall seminar somewhere on the mainland. As always we encourage you to come to Maui to take a one-on-one seminar with us which we feel is the best way to learn.
