Dear Colleagues:

We hope you are well. One of the biggest benefits of AK is it gives us a tool for discernment which supplements to take, which segments to adjust, etc.

I ran into someone I had met once before at the supermarket this morning. She started telling me about her bad asthma and how it almost killed her last week. She also stated how one of her friends came to me last year with asthma and after treatment she has been symptom free ever since. The woman then said "maybe I'll call you sometime but I've been taking pill x and powder y." Pill x and powder y are 2 multi-level marketing products that I have found to aggravate asthma. She has been taking them for months and they obviously are not helping yet she still expected them to miraculously "heal" her asthma someday.

I am not totally against multi-level-marketing or network marketing as it is now called. As a generalization I do find most products are overpriced and not top quality. My main concerns are that for many of the distributors they lack discernment. Everyone in the world needs this parasite cure or this powdered grass or this hormone precursor. The problem is

- it just is not true and typically I see more people hurt then helped. If you are involved in MLM (I am to a very small degree with the Dead Sea bath salts I really like) - it is fine but use discernment. I have read in some newsletters put out by MLM products rationalizations on why their products usually muscle test poorly. "They weaken people on muscle testing because they are so cleansing - but take them anyway." Give me a break. Another problem goes way above and beyond MLM. Some health care practitioners have tunnel vision. Everyone needs a colonic or a liver flush or amalgam removal or whatever. AK gives us an incredibly valuable tool to assess what a person needs. Not everyone has a fungus or a mercury problem or a subluxation for that matter.

I happen to truly believe that Thorne Research has the best quality supplements on the market and I have proven it to myself by double-blinded AK testing versus other brands many times. At the same time not everyone needs Basic Nutrients or SF 722 or Chromium Picolinate and there are some products I never use and some I rarely use. Also, probably 15% of the products I use are by Eclectic Institute who I also greatly appreciate. The problem of discernment goes way beyond alternative health care and I see so many people lacking discernment in so many areas - food choices, relationship choices, environmental impact, theologically, etc., etc. Our world would be a much better place if we all had discernment. It is one area I try to teach my patients if I sense a lack of it. I may get crucified for this but for those of you that believe the Bible - in Hosea (Hoshea) 4:6 it says, "My people are destroyed for want of knowledge. Because you rejected knowledge I will also reject you as priests for me. Because you forgot the Torah of you God, I will also forget you children." I do believe that if one were to study the Torah (which is best translated as instructions)- it would help to teach discernment. I am sure there are other tools, too and it is fine if you disagree with me but if you feel you lack discernment it is a great place to start.

CASE HISTORY

Vadwiga is a 78-year-old woman who resides in Stockholm. She was referred by her son who was able to overcome chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia with the help of our treatments. She is a Warsaw ghetto survivor and had recently lost her husband. About 10 months previous to her visit she developed pain on the planter side of her second toe. It was severe enough that she had to cease her favorite past time - walking. This concerned her greatly. Medical exams yielded no findings on x-ray and she was given a cortisone shot. This caused the pain to move to her ankle and it had been progressively worsening for many months. She was fairly distraught. The pain was solely on weight bearing. She was taking calcium, Vitamin D and a topical analgesic - none of which were helping. The pain started after spending 2 weeks in Haifa in a very moldy apartment.

I did a complete AK exam of the foot and ankle finding no subluxations or muscle weakness though there was a positive TL to the talo-fibular ligament. A more systemic exam suggested fungal involvement, a dairy sensitivity, fatty acid deficiency and manganese deficiency. She was desensitized, placed on SF722, Manganese Picolinate, EPA and the proper diet. We also had her apply Dead Sea mud (HTM by OLIM 1 800-200-OLIM) nightly. Within 10 days she was symptom free. This case was extremely rewarding due to being able to restore her ability to walk and also because the findings on the exam were not such that I was sure it would correct her symptomotology.
