Dear Colleagues, I hope you are all well. We are in the process of constructing a website. My son, who already has one of his own, graciously volunteered the job. Currently, you can go onto it and get our Clinical Indications of Thorne Research Products. We have updated Clinical Indications on the web only and it will be updated on the site sooner and more regularly than in the written form so check regularly for updates. We will slowly be updating and adding other things, too.
The website address is www.michaellebowitzdc.com. The website is for doctors only so please do not give it out to your patients. At this point we do not plan to post issues of Sporadic Newsletter on the site.
Again, if you have not done so (about 15% have) PLEASE send us your email address so we can switch you over to getting this newsletter by email. It will arrive a week earlier and will save our mom and pop operation a lot of labeling and stuffing and sealing of envelopes.
INTERESTING INFORMATION
The August 21,2000 copy of the Vail Daily had a letter to the Editor by a local MD
- Dr. Denton Davis. Dr. Davis has found that using a chemical free mattress cover has greatly decreased the incidence of Sudden Infant Death syndrome. He states that certain chemical compounds in most baby mattresses contain the toxic metals arsenic and antimony and that certain fungal organisms common in the mattress will cause these toxic metal containing compounds to out-gas and lead to SIDS deaths. Mattresses that are bought used or ones at day care centers (thus many users) are the worst according to Dr. Davis. He recommends the Babe Safe Cover. Information is available at www.criblife2000.com or call 800-951-9255. This might seem far out to some but I can understand it.
I once stated in this newsletter a few years ago that in some patients that awaken with headaches I have found them to be sensitive to their pillows. We are not talking about the material the pillow is composed of (though that can also be the culprit), but the amount of absorbed toxins it accumulates from your sweat and breath after sleeping on it for a year or so. Plus you would have the accumulative dysbiotic organisms (if you have dysbiosis) which can cause headaches by breathing them in all night. This, too, would be worse in motels, etc. where many people have "shared" the same pillow.
I recently went to a local department store to purchase a new pillow (I always use AK to test them) and I was surprised at how many weakened a strong muscle. I then read the labels and saw they were treated with anti-microbial chemicals! While the manufacturers are right in recognizing that microbes can live in pillows
- treating with chemicals can cause a worse problem. We suggest chemical free pillows that you periodically wash (adding Borax to the wash) and also on occasion putting them out in the sun. Ozonating would also be helpful.
We have also found a number of people with 'moldy mattresses' that have perpetuated the dysbiosis in the patient until the mattresses were replaced. If you have lived in a moldy house and move to one without a problem, leave your mattress behind.
CASE HISTORIES
1. Debbie, a 46-year-old concert opera singer presented with vocal problems. Her voice would now "crack" when performing, much to her dismay. It started after a year of poor health where she took quite a few rounds of antibiotics. She was diagnosed with sarcoidosis.
Our work suggested fungal and parasitic involvement as well as sensitivities to potato, dairy and beef. We put her and her husband (who did not come along but her statements on his health suggested similar dysbiosis) on SF722 and Juglans Nigra.
She returned a month later - had had a "flawless concert" and had lost weight (7# as did her husband) and in general, felt much better. She showed 'dysbiosis free' but had a sensitivity to onion as well as a need for Basic B Complex. She remains well as of this writing.
2. The next case history comes from Larry Bassman DC, Fresno, CA.
"A woman in her early 50's came to me who had been diagnosed with "trigger thumbs" by an orthopedist and was told she needed surgery. On taking her history, it turned out that she also had some residual pain in her left axilla where she had had surgery to have an enlarged lymph node removed. On further questioning it turned out that she had been fishing in a lake up in the Sierras about nine months ago, after which she began to experience the axillary lymphadenopathy. Later on she had pain and weakness of both arms, tender and swollen epitrochlear nodes, and finally decreased range of motion and pain in the thumbs. She also had chronic neck pain. She was on anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant medications.
Initial testing indicated fungal involvement and sensitivities to several foods. She needed SF722, P5P, Double Bromelain (all Thorne), and Linum B6. I also started some fascial flushing of thumb extensors and abductors, and did lots of other AK structural organizational therapies.
After a few visits, she no longer showed the fungal involvement and she voluntarily went off her medications. Her neck was fine, her residual pain from the surgery was gone, her epitrochlear pain and tenderness was 90% gone, and her left thumb range of motion was 75% better and less painful. Her right thumb range of motion was 75% better and less painful, Her right thumb still appeared to need help. She now showed parasitic involvement and her foods tested negative. She needed Artecin, P5P, Bromelain, and Omega Plus.
Now her left thumb is fine, her right thumb is starting to come around, and all her other complaints are resolved, including feeling generally better, sleeping better and able to exercise more.
PONDERINGS
We are coming to the feast of Sukkot or tabernacles this month. Observant Jews will erect a temporary dwelling and live in it for a week. This experience has many lessons, one of which is that we can become overly attached to material things. We can become slaves of our accomplishments instead of master of them. I think it is always valuable to undergo a time of introspection and see if we are heading closer to our ideals instead of further. Do our goals make sense
- are they service oriented or just selfish? Is our practice the right balance of business and service or ministry? Are our priorities correct or do they need revising? Are we brave enough to change or are we stuck?

VIDEO: Correcting Chronic Health Problems 1998: This video seminar approximately 5 hours long will teach the physician a simple to apply, effective protocol to treat patients with chronic fatigue, allergies, chemical sensitivities, intestinal dysbiosis, (fungal, bacterial, parasitic, and viral infections), food sensitivities, altered intestinal permeability, toxic metal problems, endocrine dysfunction, nutritional imbalances, chronic pain and subluxation. Knowledge of basic muscle testing is helpful. A complete protocol is taught that you can start using immediately to treat even the most chronic patients. The video is suited for both the novice and the advanced practitioners in our work. A complete set of advanced notes accompanies the video. This video supersedes our previous ones and was taped at our 11/1/98 Las Vegas Seminar. The cost is $200 ppd.

This seminar will teach the physician a simple to apply, effective protocol to treat patients with chronic fatigue, allergies, chemical sensitivities, intestinal dysbiosis (fungal, bacterial, parasitic and viral infections), food sensitivities, altered intestinal permeability, toxic metal problems, adrenal and endocrine dysfunction, lymphatic dysfunction, nutritional imbalances, and chronic subluxations. This will help people with most chronic diseases including headaches, arthritis, auto-immune diseases, gastrointestinal problems, chronic pain, depression, memory lapses and many others. A knowledge of basic muscle testing is helpful. The seminar is geared to both the beginning and advanced practitioner and will be a balanced blend of both academics and techniques that you can apply right away. For those of you that have been to previous seminars this will have all the essential basic and advanced techniques as well as enough new information to make it worthwhile to attend.
