Dear Colleagues, I hope you are all well. Remember that we now have a website that has our latest version of Clinical Indications of Thorne Research Products. Just go to www.michaellebowitzdc.com. If you are able we still would like you to email us with your email address so we can switch you to the email edition of this newsletter. You will get it quicker and save us work, as well as money and paper. I recently gave a talk to the local county chiropractic association at their monthly luncheon. This was my first talk to a group of chiropractors that were not at one of my seminars or an ICAK meeting. It was a good group of folks with a lot of interest and questions. At the same time I realized that those of us in applied kinesiology and/or nutritional biochemistry have a lot of extra tools at our disposal that can be indispensable in helping discern the cause and in treating patients that are not simple musculo-skeletal cases. I applaud the work of such faithful researchers as Drs. Goodheart, Schmitt, etc. who have dedicated their lives to advancing the profession. We owe them much. For those of you not involved with AK, I encourage you to learn. There are good AK teachers teaching basic courses or I could do it one on one if you like.
NEW PRODUCTS
I do not know how many of you treat patients with cancer. I do not treat cancer but occasionally people with cancer come to me to have their nutrients evaluated to see if I can optimize that part of their health. I make it clear I am not treating their cancer. Thorne (1-800-228-1966) has come out with a line of products to support immune function and hopefully decrease cancer risk. These products are formulated by two ND's who specialize in supportive treatment of cancer patients. We test them on patients who have a family susceptibility, and/or cancer.
1. Colon-guard - Indications are people who are at an increased risk for colon cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohns, intestinal polyps, etc. This supplement includes all nutrients helpful in cancer prevention (Vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, Folate, B12, Ca, Mag, Se) plus phyto-nutrients (lycopene, Quecitin, Green Tea Extract, turmeric). Recommended dose is 4 caps 3x/day.
2. Breast-Guard - Indications are family history of breast cancer, long history of estrogen usage, high exposures to xeroestrogens, and alcoholism. This supplement includes all nutrients helpful in cancer prevention (Vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, Folate, B12, Ca, Mag, Se) plus phyto-nutrients (lycopene, Quecitin, Green Tea Extract, turmeric). Recommended dose is 3 caps 3x/day.
3. Prostate-Guard - Indications are increased risk of prostate cancer, history of increased PSA levels, smoking, and alcoholism. This supplement includes all nutrients helpful in cancer prevention (Vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, Folate, B12, Ca, Mag, Se, Zn) plus phyto-nutrients (lycopene, Quecitin, Green Tea Extract, turmeric, serenoa). Recommended dose is 2 caps 3x/day.
4. Support-Guard - This was formulated to optimize nutritional levels of patients with cancer and reduce adverse effects of standard treatment. Possibly it can increase the success rate of conventional therapy. It is not a substitute for conventional therapy. This supplement includes all nutrients helpful in cancer prevention (Vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, Folate, B12, Ca, Mag, Se) plus phyto-nutrients (lycopene, Quecitin, Green Tea Extract, turmeric). Recommended dose is 4 caps 3x/day.
5. Maitake Gold - This is the most potent standardized Maitake extract to date. The polysaccharides and proteoglycens have potent anti-tumor activity as well as immunopotentialization. It is high in beta glucan, activates NK cells and stimulates macrophages. Studies have shown it to be more potent in inhibiting tumor growth then shiitake or reishi mushrooms. It has also significantly decreased side effects of chemotherapy.
HELP
Dr. E A VonBergen wonders if there is another bio-magnetic AK practitioner who uses the ear points as an integral diagnostic help and quick scanning tool. If so, he would like to share. Dr. VonBergen can be reached at eavonbergen@hotmail.com.
CASE HISTORIES
A. Marsha - a 54-year-old woman presented in July with severe fatigue and depression and a very visible red facial rash. It all stated when she was prescribed Premarin months before. Symptoms persisted after stopping the Premarin. We found fungal involvement, sensitivities to dairy, tomato and coffee. We supplemented with SF722, Basic Nutrients III, L-Tyrosine and Black Current Oil. She returned in 3 weeks asymptomatic and had lost 9 pounds. Three weeks later called us in tears as all her symptoms had returned. They came back after scrubbing under her kitchen sink to rid it of visible mold. We found the fungal involvement returned, as she needed SF722, L-Tyrosine and SB313 (all Thorne). We desensitized her, gave her the correct diet and supplements and lent her our Aerinizer (ozonator) to treat under the sink. Within a week she was asymptomatic again and remains so.
We do recommend that fungal susceptible patients get someone other than themselves to clean moldy areas. If they must do it, a good mask and long sleeves are mandatory.
Fungal problems are becoming epidemic. They have been implicated in the significant decrease of the reptile population, SIDS deaths, chronic fatigue, cancer, etc. More and more flora are being effected. It is used as a biopesticide (are there complications?), phytonutrient, etc., of which I am suspicious. Mycotoxins from fungus can be used in chemical warfare. I think it is imperative that those of us that are susceptible to fungal problems live on a diet with minimal refined sweetener, make sure their house does not have a mold problem, travel with an ozonator if indicated and swear off prescription antibiotics, estrogens, and steroids except when ABSOLUTELY necessary (which is much less frequent than the average doctor realizes).
We see many cars' air conditioning/heating systems impregnated with fungi and we need to ozonate while the recirculating air is turned on. With aggressive treatment and environmental control it is usually not too difficult to have successful outcomes in the vast majority of cases. Our protocols have had some of the quickest most successful outcomes in dealing with fungal problems.
