Dear Colleagues, I hope you are having a wonderful summer. Last month I treated myself to a great video; The hisStories of Applied Kinesiology - a 2-day seminar by George Goodheart and Wally Schmitt.
This is a classic seminar where you can hear how various foundational techniques like therapy localization, NV reflexes, challenge, etc. developed. For those of you that practice AK it is a must to own. Call Dr. Schmitt's office at 919-942-8516 to order a copy.
PRODUCT OF THE MONTH
1. Rhodiola (Thorne Research) 1-800-228-1966. Rhodiola is an adaptogen from Russia.
Effects include normalizing neurotransmitter levels, improving sleep and increasing energy levels. We have found in a good percentage of patients that it will negate a positive adrenal TL and being an adaptogen it should be effective in both hyper and hypo adrenia.
2. Coleus forskohli (Thorne Research) - This product can be useful in increasing cAMP.
As a result it will lead to decreased histamine release and decreased inflammation and cellular proliferation. We have found it test well and help patients with various skin ailments (eczema, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, etc). It should also be quite helpful in asthmatics thought I have not had an occasion to use it in that capacity yet.
3. COMING ATTRACTION - Medi-Clear (Thorne Research) - I am not sure if this product is available yet though you can ask. This product in some ways is similar to UltraClear but if you read the ingredient list (I will say more about it next time) it is far superior in my opinion. It has no rice syrup solids in it and is a great addition to a shake or smoothie or to use as a meal replacement. My most supplement intolerant patients who have not tolerated similar products are doing very well with it. Since I am one of those patients - I am extremely excited about it (other similar products give me migraines, this had not).
CASE HISTORIES
1. Carol is a 47-year-old who presented with a complaint of 5 years of intermittent diarrhea and fatigue. She claimed she "reacts" to many different foods. And endoscopic exam from a gastro-enterologist came up with a diagnosis of "sprue" and a recommendation of steroids, which she chose to refuse.
Our testing was strongly suggestive of fungal and parasitic involvement. AK testing showed "neurologic sensitivities" to corn, dairy, onion, potato, wheat, and celery. We desensitized her and removed the foods for 3 weeks as well as put her on the "anti-fungal diet" and supplemented with SF722, Artecin, Basic Nutrients 1 and L-Glutamine. She had already been off wheat with no success.
She returned in 3 weeks and has been free of diarrhea ever since the first visit. We have successfully been able to reintroduce the foods. She continues on Basic Nutrients and L-Glutamine at this point.
This is the 5th or 6th so-called sprue case we have treated over the years diagnosed by either endoscopy or blood tests. In all of these cases by treating dysbiosis, replenishing nutrients, etc., we have been able to reintroduce gluten containing products with no problem. Interestingly enough despite the wonderful testimonies given at the local celiac support meetings most people still choose the "traditional route". In all these cases to date I have found dysbiosis and multiple food sensitivities above and beyond gluten.
To me it is such a tragedy that many people who could be helped choose not to because of "allopathic brainwashing".
