Dear Colleagues:

I hope you are doing well. A lot of my patients have been able to avoid “catching” colds and flu during this winter just by just doing a few simple things. These things include taking either Mediclear and/or Basic Nutrients daily as well as zinc (I take zinc carbonate by Thorne 1-800-228-1966), taking a daily OUTDOOR walk, leaving all refined sweetening out of the diet and being in bed by 10 P.M. Despite working on many patients with acute virus conditions, this has proven a great preventative. Those that still come down with a virus usually have ones that are short and mild. During the cold/flu we usually have to add 3 scoops of Arabinex (Thorne) daily to speed resolution.

Again I have found the politics of working on professional athletes to be frustrating. I work with a member of the Colorado Avalanche NHL team who is very pleased with our work and makes the 250 mile drive to be treated. We were going to set up something where I go to Denver to treat more of the team and even though I am busy enough as it is, I thought it could be fun. One of the management just told the players that they cannot recommend that their teammates go to anyone but the established team physicians, masseuses, etc. So, even though I can still work on him, he cannot make referrals of teammates (he was referred to me by a member of the Washington Capitals). It is so sad that we have the tools to increase performance, speed injury recovery time, prevent injuries, increase endurance and stamina throughout the long season and politics gets in the way. By the way if I haven’t mentioned it before all the professional athletes I have treated over the years test positive for L-Carnitine, some form of essential fatty acid and some form of adrenal supplementation. Oftentimes we have to be “creative” to make the deficiencies show- having the patient do a little anaerobic activity first like they do during the game and then test to find the essential fatty acid deficiency; and having to person get up fast from a supine position to find the need for adrenal supplementation.

I would like to make another appeal for those who haven’t already to get your newsletter switched to email. You will get it sooner and it will help us out too. Just email us your email address with your name and asked to be switched.

CASE HISTORIES

Alan is a wealthy 60-year-old retiree who I first saw a few weeks ago. He is very symptomatic in many areas that we will probably speak about in a future newsletter. One of his main complaints was daily diarrhea of 50 years duration (yes 50 years, no typo). The medical establishment had nothing to offer him (all they tried had failed) so

he learned to live with it. Last year he read a book on parasites and decided to see if he was “infested”. He went to a few of the top labs (that many of us use). Purged stool tests were negative. One lab though did come back with a positive test for blastocystis. The physician who ordered the test sold him 14 months of anti-parasite supplements (70 bottles total), not to mention all the “anti-candida pills”. When he presented at our office he had already been on them for 14 weeks with no change in bowel frequency or consistency. Our testing using vials from test kits consultants (1-970-243-0477) were positive for Rickettsia, Chlamydia, and Fungi. The vials were negated by Lemongrass Oil, Neem Oil, and SF722 respectively. This was unusual as we usually find Thorne’s Articin or Berbercap for Rickettsia and Chlamydia. We supplemented with the 3 supplements and within 3 days he had no more diarrhea (after 50 years!); in fact he was a little bit constipated . He returned 9 days after the initial appointment. The fungus hadn’t cleared yet (which was to be expected) but he tested clear on rickettsia and Chlamydia and no longer needed neem or lemongrass. He stayed on SF722 as well as the other supplements we put him on the first visit (we had taken him off all his supplements when he first came in including his 5 anti-parasite supplements): Biomins II, 5-HTP, Pineal Plus (all Thorne) and added Magnesium Citrate.

Here are some interesting questions to ponder: 1)Was the blastocystis the cause of the diarrhea in the first place or did we pick up a different “bug” with our vials that eluded the lab tests (remember we found both rickettsia and Chlamydia) 2) Should we do a follow-up lab test for blastocystis? I tend to be the type doctor who is tickled that the symptoms are gone and I do not like to treat solely based on lab findings but would be curious to see a follow-up test. 3) If we redo the test and the blastocystis is still positive should we treat it without AK findings? (I personally tend to think not because either it is not causing any problems or it is testing negative with AK because there are other priorities). 4) Would it have a negative effect on the patient to see a positive lab test and psychologically cause other symptoms or a recurrence of the diarrhea? Let me know your opinion.
