Dear Colleagues,

I hope you all are doing well this summer. I just read in today’s paper that our county announced it will aerially spray for mosquitoes with dibrom 14 this weekend. This is the first aerial spraying in our county on a mass level. Of course I plan to stay inside and close the windows and turn off the air conditioning. I know many of you go through this on a routine basis. It is a tough question politically. Most of the people that get West Nile virus with any severity have compromised immune systems, sometimes, though not always due to poor choices they have made in lifestyle, diet, etc. By spraying this insecticide some of these people may be spared, (although the evidence that it is effective appears to be controversial). Others of us that have different degrees of multiple chemical sensitivity and compromised detoxification systems may be harmed as a result of the spraying. The fact that they are not spraying over the county fairgrounds or ponds with endangered fish contradicts their statements that it is not harmful, as does my book that lists all pesticides and rates their toxicity. It is similar to the fluoridation of water issue or the mandatory vaccination issue. All I can say is that as a race, humans appear to be getting more and more susceptible to microbes that are opportunistic and that have probably always been around but in the past our bodies were more able to resist their effects and destroy them. To be honest it is kind of scary at times. I grew up in New York City- not exactly a clean air Edenic paradise in the 1950’s. Very few if any students had what you would term ADHD today, the asthma rate was very low despite the air quality, we didn’t worry about the mosquito or tick bites we got, or having to avoid the sun, etc. Today, so many folks seem to be falling apart. At least 3 of my nephews are on Ritalin or a similar drug (these children are not patients of mine). What has changed since the 1960’s? The cumulative effect of chemicals in the environment from industrial and automotive emissions has had 40 years to build more, as has the toxic metals from power plant emissions, industry, etc. Those of us in our 50’s were the first generation to grow up on antibiotics, new food additives, houses and furniture made of chemicals, television, antibiotics, etc. Our children have massive EMF’s from computers and video games to add to the list as well as cell phones and their towers, and more chemicals and metals than ever before. And despite the fact that most of us buy our water which was unheard of back in the sixties and eat organic food which was also unheard of in the sixties, some of us are prone to getting various forms of dysbiosis on occasion, and the symptoms they may cause. On a realistic level, it is hard to say what the answer is (I am looking at things strictly on a physical non-theological level here). Big business is always going to put profit making above public health and the environment will not be miraculously cleaned up overnight or possibly not at all. I think though on a personal level there are things we can do for our own health. We have obvious things like eating whole foods, exercising, drinking pure water, etc. I believe the kind of work we do in treating people and correcting their dysbiosis, sensitivities and supplementing them nutritionally is mandatory for the health of many of us, if not all of us. We all have a responsibility to teach what we know health wise to the communities we live in. This can and must make an impact. People will be healthier and operate more efficiently. They will be in better moods (think about the ramifications of this), etc. As a result you will have more patients and make more money but that is just a side benefit, not the motivation.

Associate Wanted

My friend Neal Springer practices in East Hollywood, CA is looking for an associate to join his practice. The doctor should be very familiar with AK and nutrition. He says many of the patients specifically come in to get treated by the protocol I teach. If interested contact Dr. Springer at otjedi@earthlink.net

Case History presented by Dr Steve Osterhout- a recent graduate, now in MI

“I saw a 30 y/o female 2 weeks ago. She had a severely scaly rash on her first and second digit of her left hand, and on her right hand 3rd finger. The rash had been constant for the past 8 years. She had been a hair stylist for 10. She tested + for h.pylori at the site of inflammation on her hand as well as her stomach. She also tested + for beryllium, arsenic and her scissors on the GV and on the hand. Tested + for beef, gluten, and coffee. Suggested avoidance of foods and metals (and taping scissors to avoid contact with her hand). Treated her with berbercap, basic nutrients IV and Tyrosine (Thorne Research 1-800-228-1966). Two weeks later the scaly rash was 80% gone. She is excited because she has been to so many doctors before me and now has relief. Even got some new clients out of it. “.
