Dear Colleagues
I hope you all are doing well and I hope I see many of you at the upcoming ICAK conference in Orlando in early June. I will be teaching a pre-conference seminar for ICAK June 2nd from 8 AM-12 noon. This will be a class where you can learn most if not all of the protocol we use to approach the complex and/or chronic patient with an emphasis on dysbiosis, food intolerances and toxins, toxic metals, organ screening, etc.
On Thursday afternoon at the conference I will be presenting my updated paper on food toxins, as well as ways to find hidden ones (this part has not previously been taught and is not in the paper). Of course there will be some amazing speakers at the conference including Dr’s Schmitt, Leaf, Vreeland, Francis, Roselle, etc. as well as speakers from outside ICAK. I encourage you all to attend.
I still don’t have the final dates for my upcoming seminars in other cities but will send a separate announcement once they are finalized. As always for the most personalized seminars feel free to book a Sunday here in Grand Junction for a one on one seminar. That way we can tailor it to meet your specific needs and you (and your family) can get treated as part of it. Occasionally weekdays are also available.
NEW BOOK by Michael Lebowitz DC and Ami Kapadia MD
Our new book Body Restoration An Owners Manual is now available for purchase.
This book is an updated and expanded version of my first book Body Mechanics published almost 30 years ago. In part 1 there is a chapter on each organ/gland. Each chapter teaches basic anatomy and physiology, causes and symptoms of dysfunction, as well as simple treatments your patient can do at home to complement your treatment. Part 2 explains the role of dysbiosis, food intolerances, toxic metals, nutritional deficiencies and neurotransmitter imbalances in health.
The book is a great review for the doctor, but better yet it is a great tool to sell to your patient. It will give them a better understanding of how their body works and the causes of health and disease, as well as the rationale of why you treat the way you do. It is very pro chiropractic. Volume discounts are available should you want to sell them to your patient and a kindle edition should hopefully be available in the future. Some time later in the year my wife hopes to publish a cookbook to complement this book.

My co-author Dr. Ami Kapadia MD worked at my office in 2009-10 and specializes in functional medicine with a strong belief in applied kinesiology.
When I had written Body Mechanics almost 30 years ago, I sold out of copies fairly quickly but since I was doing research at that point on dysbiosis, etc., I felt there were major revisions needed. After decades of procrastination and constant nudging from my wife and with Dr Kapadia here to help, we finally tackled the job. My son Noah, who has been teaching anatomy & physiology labs at ASU for 3 years (and will be attending Parker Chiropractic beginning in a few weeks) helped in updating the physiology in some of the chapters.
CASE HISTORY
A 32 year old woman came to see me with complaints of anxiety, depression, fatigue, brain fog, sinus and allergy issues, chronic colds, gas and bloating, constipation, stomach pains, reflux and headaches. She tested positive for fungus, dairy, and wheat negated by SF722, Betaine HCl/Pepsin and Phytisone (all Thorne Research 1-800-228-1966). I put her on an anti-fungal diet, also restricting the above foods. She came back in 10 days later for a 'mid-way check-up' and reported that nearly all of her symptoms had been resolved. She had greatly improved energy, mental clarity, sinus and allergy symptoms gone and no significant digestive issues to speak of. After 15 years of this work, I still want to say, "Thank you Michael."

Observations on food toxins
Our work on food toxins appears to be some of the most important work we have come up with. Unlike working with “food allergies” which we often times can clear quickly, these take much longer, elude traditional AK screening methods, cannot be desensitized in the usual fashion, and are often the cause of chronic symptoms in many patients. I find about 50% of the time the patient can reintroduce the food in a few months’ time or less, while others are more or less permanent.
It is interesting how things change. Back in the 1970’s I ran a large (for that time) health food store. We never considered carrying any products with refined sugar or caffeine. Now a high percentage of packaged products in health food stores seem to have evaporated cane juice, sugar, or are coffee or tea (or acai, guarana, yerba mate) products (the new “health foods”). It is great for their business (and ours too due to the health problems they create) but the amount of misinformation out there is amazing. Probably 70% of my patients test positive to the methylxanthine family (see the paper on my website) and it is not unusual for musculoskeletal problems (especially hypertonicity and ligamentous problems), insomnia, endocrine issues, hypertension, etc. to greatly improve on elimination of these products from your diet.
