Dear Colleagues:

I hope you are well. We are in Florida at the ICAK conference where I will be doing a 4 hour preconference seminar as well as a one hour talk on food toxins. The food toxin paper is on my website.

We have had a great response so far to my new book Body Restoration an Owners Manual. It is available through the website: www.bodyrestorationanownersmanual.com and is also now available as a Kindle book through Amazon (the hard copy is only available through us, Mid American marketing, and ICAK).

I am planning to teach a class to the AK Club at Parker University, Dallas, TX hopefully in July where my son, Noah is now attending. Encourage the students you know there to attend. There will be no charge as I have a real desire to teach students at chiropractic colleges and give them a good AK foundation.

Of course we are continuing to teach ‘one on one’ seminars here at our Colorado office, too (details on last page of newsletter).

New Product Schisandra Supreme(Supreme Nutrition)1-800-922-1744 Schisandra is a berry originating in eastern Asia, which has long been used in Chinese Medicine. I have known about it for many years, but have come across quality issues as most of the world’s supply comes from China. As a result our test results were never very promising. Recently we located a domestic source and testing with applied kinesiology as well as clinical feedback from patients has been extremely positive. Schisandra has been shown to increase liver function by increasing enzymatic activity to increase glutathione production. Clinical trials in China by Liu KT from Studies on fructus Schizandre cinensis has shown that Schisandra berries can help those with chronic viral hepatitis. One mechanism of hepatitis alleviation is by lowering levels of serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), a marker of hepatitis and many other liver disorders. It also may lower SGOT when elevated. Schisandra is also thought to help re-grow hepatic cells damaged by alcohol. The active parts of Schisandra currently identified as helping liver function are: schizandrin, deoxyschizandrin, gomisins, and pregomisin.

Animal studies have shown that Schisandra can increase ones physical stamina, energy level, quickens reflexes, as well as focus, in addition to protecting against things such as heat shock, frostbite, heavy metal intoxication, radiation, high altitude problems and certain types of inflammation. It also is a useful adjunct to chemotherapy due to both its liver protective properties (especially phase 1) as well as its immune modulating properties. It can potentially help people handle the toxicity of certain pharmaceuticals they take. Heart contractility has also been shown to increase, without a change in ones blood pressure. In addition to increasing physical stamina, schisandra is thought to increase mental stamina and focus as well as visual and hearing acuity. Schisandra is also known to have phytoadaptagen properties (similar to ginseng) and assist ones endocrine, immune, and sympathetic nervous systems, help with cardiovascular and GI problems, increase bile secretion, and even help prevent arthrosclerosis. It is reported that Schisandra has an aphrodisiac affect on both men and women (by increasing men's staying power and stimulating sensitivity in the female's genitals).

Schisandra is known to having some antimicrobial properties. It is thought to be especially effective against Staph aureus, Bacillus dysentarie, Bacillus typhi and Bacillus subtilis.

Chinese medicine typically prescribes Schisandra to treat mental illnesses such as depression, and to help against insomnia.

Contraindications: pregnancy as it can increase uterine contractions (though it has been used to induce labor).

Our typical dose is one cap 3x/day. We test it on every patient. It is an adaptogen like Endo, Reishi, and LuRong in some ways but with more focus on the liver than these and on physical stamina (though LuRong greatly helps physical stamina too). Since different people respond differently to various natural products, it is beneficial to test various ones singularly and perhaps in various combinations to see which yield the optimum response.

Book Reviews on Body Restoration

Everyone should own this book! Each small chapter contains an in-depth explanation of how all the major organs and glands of the body work. The information is clear enough for patients to understand, while at the same time provides new treatment ideas and clues that even a career long health-professional can put to use. As a holistic Chiropractor and student of Dr. Lebowitz's, this book is helping me to educate patients (and myself) on the complicating factors of organ dysfunction, and lists multiple nutritional supplements to consider. Patients who pick up a copy are understanding more about ulcers, hypo-thyroidism, hormonal imbalances, etc. than ever before, and are eager to try the suggestions in the book. Patients who have all this information in one place are more likely to follow the simple dietary and lifestyle do's and don’ts for each condition listed. I agree that this book is "An Owners Manual" for the human body.

I have followed Dr.Lebowitz's work for over seven years and have had amazing results with patients who follow his protocol. Having so much of his information in one book is fantastic. If you have a health problem or just want to stay well, the information in this book will help you immensely. The root causes section addresses the most important issues that cause ill health. Unfortunately, these issues are rarely treated by doctors and most patients are unaware of the importance of them. All patients and health care professionals should use this book as a guide to getting and staying well.

"Body Restoration" is an incredibly informative book on the Human Body. It explains in depth, but in an easy to read manner, how the body works, what can go wrong, why things go wrong and how to fix the issues without medication or surgery. Body Restoration provides the reader with an abundance of useful information in a condensed easy to read format. I learned more from this book than the two anatomy and physiology books I read while in Nutrition School. It is laid out in a way that will make it a great reference for practitioners, clients or anyone that is interested in improving their health. I use Dr Lebowitz's protocols and supplements in my practice and have had amazing results.

CLINICAL TIDBIT ON FOOD TOXIN TESTING

The following are five different ways you may get a positive test on one of the food toxin vials:

  1. Weakening a “strong muscle” in the clear when tested biomagnetically over GV27
  2. Causing a “weak or a strong muscle” to go hypertonic when tested over GV27
  3. Weakening or causing hypertonicity of an indicator muscle when tested over a symptomatic area
  4. Weakening an indicator muscle when tested over GV27 during movement (contraction and relaxation) of a symptomatic joint or muscle.
  5. Causing recidivism of a subluxation (spine, extremity, cranial), specific muscle test, or reflex you had just corrected when tested biomagnetically over the area.

If any of the above 5 is positive, the patient needs to refrain from eating the food toxin at this point. Once it tests negative on a subsequent visit, I have them re-introduce it for 2 days in a row and then retest it by the above methods. If they all test negative they can re-introduce the food in moderation. It is not unusual to have more than one of these ways test positive for a given toxin and it can weaken with one of these methods above and cause hypertonicity with another.

6. Body Restoration An Owners Manual An updated and expanded version of my first book Body Mechanics published almost 30 years ago. Part 1 has a chapter on each organ/gland. Each chapter teaches basic anatomy and physiology, causes and symptoms of dysfunction, as well as simple treatments your patient can do at home to complement your treatment. Part 2 explains the role of dysbiosis, food intolerances, toxic metals, nutritional deficiencies and neurotransmitter imbalances in health.

The book is a great review for the doctor, but better yet it is a great tool to sell to your patient. It will give them a better understanding of how their body works and the causes of health and disease, as well as the rationale of why you treat the way you do. It is very pro chiropractic. Volume discounts are available should you want to sell them to your patient and a kindle edition should hopefully be available in the future. Some time later in the year my wife hopes to publish a cookbook to complement this book.
