Dear Colleagues:

I hope you all are doing well. Those of you that didn’t attend the ICAK conference in Orlando missed a good meeting. There were lots of interesting speakers and paper presentations. There are some techniques by Dr’s Leaf and Gangemi that I took home and adapted into my musculoskeletal protocols and am getting great results. For those of you that do not belong to the group, I encourage you to join. Members also have access to the last 38 years of papers written by members that aren’t publically published. I probably have 50-60 papers in there. Wally Schmitt has even more. When I started chiropractic school in 1977 the ICAK papers helped keep me sane through some of the less relevant or philosophically challenging times of school and I was always grabbing any friend I could find to test them. Next year’s meeting will be in Dallas.

I thank all of you that have bought my book Body Restoration (www.bodyrestorationanownersmanual.com). It has been getting great reviews and I especially thank those of you that are selling it to patients to help educate them and support your treatments. Patients have even been getting extra copies to give to friends.

There are still some openings for one on one seminars here in Grand Junction at my office though many Sundays are already filled. If you are interested in scheduling one of those call our office.

DENVER SEMINAR NOW SET

I will be teaching my whole protocol this fall in Denver. The seminar will be on Sunday Sept 18th from 9AM-5PM at the Denver East - Stapleton Holiday Inn (Hotel phone: 303-321-3500- free airport shuttle available). I will be teaching a quick effective and inexpensive way to “diagnose” dysbiosis, food issues, toxic metals, organ imbalances, etc. There will be a fair amount of time spent covering my new work on food toxins (I was honored to win the ICAK research paper of the year award along with my friend Dr Kapadia for our paper on Food Toxins- it can be viewed on my website) and it will be a very hands on class with lots of work shopping and practical info on products you can use etc. The cost to attend will be $250 and you can send a check to me or sign up on my website (www.michaellebowitzdc.com). This will be the last “larger class” I will be teaching this year and it will benefit both the beginning and advanced practitioner in this type of work. You’ll be able to treat most gastro-intestinal, respiratory, immune and endocrine problems, headaches, arthritis, etc., etc., quicker and less expensively than most other DC’s and functional medicine MD’s. The fact that I have never even been listed in the phonebook but attract patients from all over the globe attests to the results of the protocol you will be learning. I hope to see many of you there. There will be a discounted rate for students and CA’s. Class size will be limited to make sure we can help you all during workshops and have time to answer all your questions.

This is a wonderful time to visit Denver (DIA – airport) and the surrounding areas. With all the snow this year hiking should be at its best.

BOOK REVIEW

I just read a great book by a fellow DC. It is called The Thyroid Alternative and the author is Nikolas Hedberg. This books sets itself apart from other books on the Thyroid by recognizing the role that dysbiosis, food sensitivities, toxic metals and other toxins play in thyroid problems and how getting to the underlying cause can correct the thyroid which is often secondary to the aforementioned issues. He talks about the pros and cons of different prescription meds (with a lot of great info I never heard before). I thoroughly enjoyed and greatly benefited from the book. You can see and purchase the book on http://drhedberg.com/the-book-2/

A HEALTHY SUNSCREEN?

As you know most sunscreens are loaded with chemicals and toxic metals like titanium dioxide as well as endocrine disruptors, etc. I almost never wear any sunscreen (sometimes if I go to Phoenix in the winter and am going to be outside for 12 hours a day I might put some on my calves) but I know for various reason many people rely on and need a good one. For those of you that do (including my wife) I recommend 3rd Rock Sunblock (http://www.3rdrocksunblock.com/, 757.486.2088). John Schmitt DC is one of the developers and they use AK to help determine ingredient selection etc. You may want to consider carrying this item to sell to your patients. Here is what my wife has to say about it. “For several years I used creams with a high Vitamin A content which made my skin become very sensitive to the sun. I could no longer go out without a hat and even sunscreens did not help but actually worsened the problem. My face would blister and burn. I recently tried 3rd Rock Sunblock while in FL and it was the first sunscreen I could tolerate and it kept my face from blistering. It takes a while to rub in but definitely works. The ingredients read like a high quality skin care product which is another plus.”

CASE HISTORY

Cynthia is a woman in her forties that was referred by a local counselor. She has suffered from abdominal distension and pain her whole adult life. She was also overweight and unable to lose. She had been to 2 very good AK docs who had found a fungus (they weren’t able to clear) as well as issues with methylxanthines, solanine and wheat. Avoiding those only brought marginal relief.

On our first visit we also found methylxanthines as the other docs did. We also found gliadin, casein, zein and the need for Bacillus Coagulans (Thorne 1-800-228-1966 formerly known as lactobacillus sporogenes). I didn’t find any dysbiosis.

She returned 2 weeks later having lost 5 pounds but not having any relief from the distension (I rarely get such minimal results after a visit, so I felt a need to improvise a little). On this visit we did all of our testing over the liver/gall bladder (under the magnet) and found the Fungus composite vial (only over the liver/gall bladder, vial from AK Test Kits 1-888-323-0625) and we supplemented with Golden Thread and Schisandra Supreme (Supreme Nutrition 1-800-922-1744) as well as Meriva SR (Thorne).

She returned in another 2 weeks with 4 pounds more of weight loss and reporting that she was feeling “really good” with less distension than she has had in years. What I found interesting was when I use our “tap and zap” technique I rarely find I have to “unlayer” microbes on subsequent visits. This time though, the Bacteria composite vial was positive over the liver/gallbladder on the 3rd visit. She needed to stay on Meriva SR and Shisandra and we needed to add Melia Supreme and Body Guard Supreme (Supreme Nutrition). We also had to treat some points on the gall bladder meridian with manual pressure. I expect to see a total resolution soon.

6. Body Restoration An Owners Manual

An updated and expanded version of my first book Body Mechanics published almost 30 years ago. Part 1 has a chapter on each organ/gland. Each chapter teaches basic anatomy and physiology, causes and symptoms of dysfunction, as well as simple treatments your patient can do at home to complement your treatment. Part 2 explains the role of dysbiosis, food intolerances, toxic metals, nutritional deficiencies and neurotransmitter imbalances in health.
The book is a great review for the doctor, but better yet it is a great tool to sell to your patient. It will give them a better understanding of how their body works and the causes of health and disease, as well as the rationale of why you treat the way you do. It is very pro chiropractic. Volume discounts are available should you want to sell them to your patient and a kindle edition should hopefully be available in the future. Some time later in the year my wife hopes to publish a cookbook to complement this book.
